Hi guys! Everything's nice and juicy?😎
😏You already noticed the news, right? ...
It seems Nintendo was not kidding when it send the alert to users at the end of last year, call out our attention to the fact that the Wii Shop Channel would close on January 30th, 2019. Wow!
😲💬

«Information:
The Wii Shop Channel, which has been available on Wii systems since December 2006, closed on January 30, 2019. We sincerely thank our loyal customers for their support.

It is no longer possible to purchase new content from the Wii Shop. However, for the time being you may continue to re-download content you have purchased or transfer that content from a Wii system to a Wii U system. Be aware that these features will eventually end at a future date.

Thank you for supporting the Wii Shop Channel and for being such great fans of Nintendo.»

I gotta confess that I don't like games downloaded from the net! 😒 Unless they are Demos, but this is because the intention is not to keep them forever on the HDD of the consoles, as it happens with whole video games.😜

Honestly, buying digital games for the same price (or even a little cheaper) than physical games, sounds to me like a anti-pragmatic and snobbish thing. And why?

Isn't way better to have a physical copy of our favorite games that we can access whenever we want and feel like it? And if that's not quite the case for some reason, if we want to sell some, it's way easier.

I remember years ago, when I was looking out to buy my 1st Playstation 4, I looked for alternatives in 2nd hand (used ones) but I found a lot of people wanting to sell their PS4 but with digital games installed, and because of that they inflated the final price they were asking for it.
😝

And then I was thinking: "What fault do I have that the previous owner had bought digital versions of videogames and is not able to get them off the console and sell aside? I just want the console, its controllers and accessories. Specially gmes that don't interest the slightest? Do you think money grows on trees to be wasted that easily?"😤

Needless to say, everyone I contacted refused to sell, even though I said to delete the video games installed in the PS4.😄

Getting back to the main topic, why i don't care about digital games?
-Mostly because my consoles don't have a 500 Terabytes HDD to accumulate so much information in the long run. If everyone had such a storage capacity, buying digital games would be more appealing. But even if that was a possibility, this is not the only problem...
And after finaishing the digital game? The players delete it from the HDD to get more free space for the next one to be installed, however the purchased digital version is still stored on the internet waiting to be downloaded again in case we want to play it?
😅

I always find that practice very unsafe. Now, what if a tsunami hits the server's premises? Or what if Sony or Microsoft decide to shutdown these servers because they no longer bring enough income to keep it running?😕
-They'll do the same thing that Nintendo did to Wii users! Users gotta find a way to find to store enourms amounts of data required by their purchased games, and if they can't access the internet and
re-download their games? The games will be lost forever. 💔

And yes, it's a fact that not everyone has internet connection suitable to connect their consoles whenever they want or fell like it.

This situation reminds the Portuguese banks that went bankrupt years ago, those who are really lost everything were the customers of these banks, who thought they had their money secured but the idea backfired.
💣💥

Besides, there are rumors that SONY wants the successor of the PS4 to use this service much more often in order to sell video games for the new Playstation 5, and that most of them will be exclusively digital.

Okay, it's just rumor for now, but nowadays we have lots of  players around the planet that are not able to connect their consoles to the internet. And the funny thing is, they paid the whole price for a physical game but they're not entitled to Updates, DLCs, etc. - where is the justice in this?😡💢

Well, if this digital trend of recreational goods becomes trendy, I'll turn to Retrogaming even more and "screw up" the new consoles made for spoiled people. 💰

Anyway, it seems that the Wii Shop Channel was no longer profitable and had to be shutdown. 👀

But like this one, there are other cases in which it might happen simillar stuff in the future, for example:
- Google+ soon will be also part of internet's history;
👻
- Facebook will take a little longer to vanish;
💀
- and the Playboy magazine is only standing against it's social media competitors, like Patreon, Instagram and Twitch, because there is a fat bank account funding the magazine in the years to come - otherwise it would be history soon as well. (blessed Hugh Hefner)
😅

Well, while the future doesn't arrive, let's sit our delicate buttocks on a very comfortable surface and play some of our favorite video games. 🎮 😋
